Welcome
Ladies and
Gentlemen, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the web page of
Congo Times. In the tradition of all the great “Times” we
intend to offer you a window to the World. By inaugurating
officially this site in this month of December, 1999, we intend
to positively contribute to the transition of Africa toward the
third millennium through collection, analysis and dissemination
of information about Central Africa and its relations with the
rest of the World. We put in your hands this tool of
communication in order to foster reflections on the future of
Africa in general, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in
particular. The ambition of this site is to ascertain the
significance of “African Presence” in the “Global World”
and African contribution to the construction of the Civilization
of the Universal, from the perspective of the Congo Basin.
Beside regular news, you will find in our monthly journal
important articles pertaining to issues of Democracy, Human
Rights, Economic and social Development, and so forth. Our Forum
opens the door to a constructive debate in the hope that wise
critical thinking will generate the light needed to illuminate
the steps of African existential tragectory. Ladies and
Gentlemen, Africa stands today at the crossroad. A New era is
opening up new opportunities of leadership and enlightened
citizenship. Some observers call it the “Second Independence
of Africa.” Others point to signs of “economic miracle;”
they talk of “African Lions versus Asian Tigers.” Others
applaud the “Democratic Revolution.” But in this
post-cold-war era, the phenomenon of Globalization and the
scramble for Post-Colonial Africa present new challenges. Africa
needs new hearts, new minds, and new hermeneutical keys to read
the signs of this time. There is no need for Afropessimism.
There is no reason why we should miss the train of history. Let
us seize the “Kairos” to build together a better and bright
future.
